the countdown!

well my friends, its almost that time.
the big day (surgery) is this tuesday!!!
so before i'm instructed to take it easy for the next 3 months.. im trying to kick into craft gear.

featuring this little gem i did last night, which i found in my local newspaper!!!
(i know, right??)
i call it, the spoon mirror. im sure it has a proper name but, i'm not exactly sure of it at the moment :)

iTEMS YOU NEED :

dollar store pizza pan-- 1$ from the dollar tree

craft paint-- walmart for like $.57.. the colors i used were White, Key West, & Laguna

mirror-- 1$ at the dollar tree. i used a 5 inch one.

plastic spoons-- dollar tree. as you can see i bought 5 packs of 48, because thats how much the article called for, i didnt use near that much and have a ton left over.

 DiRECTiONS:

break off all of your spoon ends. yes this is difficult. i found myself getting cut and pinched and even ended up with plastic in my eyeball. no joke. so, be carefull! sometimes it was easier to cut them with scissors, other times not. its okay if the ends aren't even, just make sure you have some that are to use at the end.

glue your mirror to the center of the pizza tray.

i used a hot glue gun, but you can use any suitable craft glue or gorilla glue.

glue first layer of spoons around the edge. if i make this again, i will maybe glue the spoons more on the actual mouth than the handle than i did here, bu its really not a big deal.

wa-la! just close enough that they barely touch each other .

this is where you will start with your lightest color. i used a mixture of White & the Key West.

add 2 coats. allowing the first one to try completely before starting your second.

then start your second layer of spoons, just below the first layer. at first i tried perfectly to place them in between the top layer but just start gluing them side by side and they will fall into place with the top layer.

:)

add a little more of the medium color to your mixture.

next layer, same as the others. i ended up with 4 layers, so for the 3rd layer i used strictly the middle color, and for the 4th layer i used strictly the last darkest color.

for the final layer, this is when i said to use the ones with the most even break or the littlest left of the handle on the spoon, although it really doesn't matter. i left the rubber stoppers on the back of my mirror so i could put the spoons under it just a little bit.

ta da!!!!!

all finished... and in love :) still need to add another coat to the darkest layer though...

who needs a closet anyways??

so yesterday, in Emily's world of "lets see how much stuff i can get done before my surgery,"
i decided (thanks to mi madre's suggestion) that i should turn my closet into a nook!

love it!

i'm fortunate enough to have another closet downstairs in my basement, where my closet items shall reside for now.

i'm not finished, i still need to paint the inside of the closet (what color, IDK??!!)
and add much more to my shelves... but its a start :)

half of the closet before (GR's half).. i didnt bother with a picture of my half lol

handy man at work

YIKES. dont judge me.

still need lots and lots of things for the shelves...thus why i'm going thrifting this weekend :)

after...wa-la! how cute.
also not 100% sure ill be keeping this quilt... but possibly... so what color to paint the inside?! suggestions welcome :)
